What is Litterboxd?

Litterboxd is a cat encounter journal app inspired by Letterboxd (the popular film diary app). Where Letterboxd lets movie lovers log and rate films, Litterboxd lets cat lovers log and rate their feline encounters.

Think of it as a cat diary, cat journal, or cat tracker app - but built around encounters rather than individual cats.

Why encounters? Because no two meetings with a cat are the same. You might see your neighborhood tabby every day, but each encounter is unique. Litterboxd lets you capture and remember each of those moments.

Why Litterboxd?

We built Litterboxd because cats bring joy, and we wanted a simple way to hold onto that joy.

No complicated features, no algorithms deciding what you see. Just a beautiful, simple place to document your cat encounters and share them with friends who understand that spotting a new cat absolutely is worth celebrating.

How does Litterboxd work?

Using Litterboxd is simple:

See a cat. Snap a photo. Give them a name (or your best guess). Rate your encounter from half a star to five stars. Add a note about what made this encounter special. Save it to your journal.

That's it. Your encounters are saved to your personal cat journal, and you can choose to share them with friends or the broader Litterboxd community.

Is Litterboxd free?

Yes! Litterboxd is completely free to download and use. Log unlimited cat encounters, follow friends, and explore cats from the community - all for free.

If you'd like to remove ads and support the app, you can optionally upgrade to Litterboxd Pro.

What if I see the same cat again?

Log it again! Litterboxd is designed around encounters, not unique cats.

Your favorite neighborhood cat might greet you every morning - each of those moments is worth remembering. Was she extra friendly today? Did he finally let you pet him? Every encounter tells its own story.

What devices is Litterboxd available on?

Litterboxd is currently available for iOS (iPhone and iPad). We're working on bringing Litterboxd to Android in the future.
